PhD Defense Announcement: Researcher Qasim Suleiman Dawood Earns Doctorate in Islamic Studies In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Congratulations on Obtaining a Doctorate Degree The Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Arts and Humanities, extends its warmest congratulations and best wishes to researcher Qasim Suleiman Dawood on obtaining the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Studies, following the public defense of his dissertation entitled: 📗 "The Life of a Muslim in the West between Sharia and Law" This took place on Friday, April 10, 2026. The dissertation defense committee consisted of the esteemed professors: · Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Oglu · Prof. Dr. Muhammad Said · Prof. Dr. Marwan Bahri · Prof. Dr. Hilal Yunus 📖 Abstract of the Study: This thesis addresses one of the most prominent contemporary issues: how a Muslim can reconcile adherence to the rulings of Islamic Sharia with submission to positive laws in Western societies. The researcher adopted a comparative analytical methodology, focusing on four main axes: acts of worship (such as prayer and fasting), financial transactions (such as bank loans and insurance), personal status matters (marriage, divorce, and custody), and issues of identity and citizenship. The study concluded that Islamic Sharia is capable of providing realistic and flexible solutions that preserve a Muslim's religion without alienating them from society. It recommended activating the "jurisprudence of minorities" through institutional collective ijtihad and establishing religious bodies in the West that keep pace with legal and social challenges. On this happy occasion, we extend our sincere prayers for the researcher's continued success and prosperity, and that Allah may benefit Islam and Muslims through his work. And Allah is the Grantor of Success Department of Islamic Studies Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
